I just installed a new 256 stick of RAM in my Dell. Previously, I had 128 MB. After installing the system properties showed 383 MB. I may not be a math wizard, but 128 + 256 = 384, not 383. Can anyone tell me what happened? Is the stick bad? Additionally, any advice on whether or not to overclock my machine?

dear cjradcy

which dell?
most important which chipset and motherboard?

best guess without above info is that you tried to use a modern high density sdram dimm in a mother board designed for low capacity dimms
is your new dimm single or double sided?
many moterboards will only accept double sided 256mb dimms

check your manual or dell websitel
