Hello all,

I have been on Symantec's online scan engine a lot to check for viruses and to do online security scans in the past. Usually when I do the online security scan I get nothing but green. I have been working on getting spyware off of two laptops, one of which broke the record for the most I have personally seen on a system (which had just been set a few days before).

The interesting thing isn't that I found a ton of critical spyware issues and a virus on the machine, that is to be expected. The interesting thing is that when I took this XP machine to the Symantec site and did the online security scan there were a lot of ports open on it that normally aren't. So I went into the firewall and secured it more and turned off a bunch of things. Then I went back into the online scan and it said it was now WORSE. I turned off the echo request which was on, and the online scan says that it is still on...

So, I went and I scanned the other laptop and it was just as bad. Then I did the scan on my XP SP2 machine with the firewall on which has never had any of those ports opened on it. According to the scan those ports are all open, even though I am behind a firewall that also blocks those ports.

Is anyone else getting unexpected results from this online security scan? If there really is a problem with the security of my network and these systems then it would be nice to know. I think it is probably just a glitch, since one of the machines I scanned was 2k and not XP but came up with the exact same results. I don't see how three different systems running two different OS and with completely different setups and programs running on them could have the exact same scan results.

One laptop had all that file swapping, online chat, etc. etc. crap on it as well as several online games, the other laptop has The Sims online and other stuff on it, and then my desktop doesn't have any games or non-work related software on it. The only extra thing I have on my desktop that leaves a huge hole is messenger, and I have fought with it so much that I am not sure that it even works anymore. Rolling Eyes

I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know if they are seeing the same types of results from the online security scan at Symantec so I can try to figure out if there is something I need to do with these systems or what...

Thanks! Cool
