Hey,
Does anyone know anything about the software Registry Cleaner? I got an e-mail from the makers of MemTurbo, and they said that they were giving me the Registry Cleaner software free. (I guess that should have been a red flag to me.) They gave me a username and password to use. However, after the install, I found that the software was a trial version and there was no place to put any username or password. When I ran the software it found problems with the registry but, you guessed it, one had to buy the full version in order for the registry errors to be corrected. Can we say false positives??? Anyway, I figured if they would pull that mess, they more than likely also put in some spyware. I ran my battery of anti-spyware software and found that Giant anti-spyware and Aluria had been disabled. I had to reinstall both of them in order for me to get them to work. PestPatrol found that an unknown Trojan had been installed along with the Registry Cleaner Software.
Does anyone know if more spyware might have been installed by Registry Cleaner, and if so; what kind and how do I get rid of it.
Thanks,
John the gadget |
