My computer is using up alot of resources. It ranges from 50% avail. to 4% avail. I know this depends on whats running. But its very inconsistant(sp?). Is there a program that I can run to show what program is using what for resources. I do have MSN, and Yahoo, but I dont run them at the same time, and rarely have either up anyway.

But mainly I am looking for a program that will let me see what I am running, and what resources it is using. Thnx

edit: I am using win ME

perfect process is a great program from

www.veloci.dk

(their site appears to be down atm, if this is the case just type in perfect process on google, im sure youll find some download spots).

its main purpose is to tell you if any spyware is running in memory but also blocks stuff from getting on board.

but the best feature is the bit that shows you whats running in the background....its gives you absolutely TONS of detailed info....also free.

A couple of my fav tools are;

ProcessExplorer; http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml
Many good tools at Sysinternals. ProcExp was just upgraded recently.

FaberToys; http://www.faberbox.com/fabertoys.asp

A very good piece on the diff between 9x and NT resources; http://www.apptools.com/rants/resources.php A must read for those who don't understand the concepts.

Of course, where would we be without Pacman's place; http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php

AnswersThatWork, another good ref; http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

I generally don't 'tool around' until I see what is already there for me to see, on any machine I work on here.
In fact, I don't see the need to d/l any P3rd programs unless I find a problem.

edgehead, what is your OS?
Look at the 'running processes'
Hit ctrl/alt/del and tab over to Processes
Is there anything there which is drawing down a lot?
