My mistake, about the phoenix having landed....course they rise....again. This cogitating, is it catching?

Bud, i'd be much better able to rise higher if only l had a broom. Wink As for me chasing the ladies; shame on you. They wore me out running me down Laughing

LBK; kettle, pot and black spring to mind. Anyway, if you believe what TMOV says, i'm always chasing the ladies. Chance would be a fine thing. They wear me out chasing me. I'm hiding from them over here, hope they find me soon, hee hee Very Happy

what are you doing today?
any improvement in page generation times at ccsp?
anyone know where Jamming went?
and is he ok?
claire or lilliebet, one of them anyway said that he retired? from computercops?
i'm just curious about that.
he was a strong one on the site.
always lurking and keeping the troops in line.
now the only one i see giving out warnings to younguns is parputt.
one youngun got into it with a mod or admin in the public forum and has received a bunch of demerits.
it's funny that there has to be such actions, but it's like holding the hands of kids to make sure they don't get into trouble.
and if there are no controls then it just gets wild.
the admin here, i noticed has placed restrictions on who can register.
i'm sure it has something to do with controlling the access of some foreign nationals that are associated with the russian mobsters.
they want to get into it with you and i say , don't even acknowledge their existence, just ignore them and then delete any and all of their entries.
send their posts to the jail where no one can view them publicly.
it's amazing how beligerent they get.
but i wonder if they would be so bold if their identities were known.
all of the former employees of the KGB of the former soviet union have discovered how to make money illegitimately on the web by stealing the identities of anyone who doesn't have sufficient security features on their p.c.'s.
no new crimes, just new ways of perpetrating them.

i wonder if it would be a good move to have website owner operators get together and share each others banned i.p. numbers?
it would be a good way to get started in a new site.
that way you could keep the bad guys out right from the beginning.
i know that paul @ccsp has an extensive list of banned i.p.'s
would he share?
i'm sure he would help!
later.
enough of this.

I think this would be a good idea. but would have to be carefull which forums you except the blocked ip lists from as some might try to get some of the good people on the net band by falsely adding there ip.

I agree with wawadave. Also some people are banned for reasons strictly related to that individual board.
Idea Perhaps if such a system was set up it could contain an explanation of why an ip was banned. That way the others could decide if it's just cause to include them on their banned list.

i'm sure that the webmasters have a list which they know why the i.p.'s are banned.
and the ones to be aware of are the ones which are banned because of some scanning activity and i wouldn't think that anyone would pass on banned i.p.'s that were for disciplinary reasons .
there is a group of webmasters that already have a system set up to assist other webmasters in the event that their websites come under a ddos attack, the provision is already set-up to allow other webmasters to use a forum to keep in-touch with their admins and mods at a site that is password protected and available by invitation only.

Hey TMOV

Still getting slow load times. Tried downloading a couple of applications PAUL and IACOJ suggested but it's not working. What I don't understand is that it's only my work computer that's slow and only to the CCSP site. I can get to any other site perfectly fine and from home I don't have the problem at all. Anyway, still working on it.

Yeah, Jamming retired. I read about that dust up with one of the mods at CCSP. Can't remember the fellow's name but he now has 3 warnings.

It's very busy there now but with the problems at the site and stuff going on in my personal life I'm not not there much. I'll keep trying though.

Cheers.

hey gilles,
don't you think it is a bit wierd that this site problem is just sporadic?
i logged on at another place and didn't have the same trouble.
my friend gisele logged on at my request and she has a dial-up connection, and she got sub- second generation times.
it is not a gripe that follows my p.c.
just my account im sure.
you know there are these worms that get on the sites themselves and cause trouble, and they don't affect the user p.c.
maybe that's what he has on there.

TMOV are you referring to the ASAP group? If so, I'm already a member.

Also just so you know, I don't have time to read every post in every thead here anymore (wish I did though), so if I don't respond to a post where you ask me a question, that's why. Wink

jamming's fine......i spoke with him recently on the lline.

Bud: Site loads and generations ARE not the fault of your system.....

It's the coding and security measures that the site prefers to employ.

Unfortunately, it also wreaks havoc with normal folk's systems and users on their employer's networks.

Can't tell you that. And....private it is....never to be revealed. She'd kill me if l were to tell anyone. As for your load times....l did PM you about that a while ago. Nothing wrong with your end. Period.

jd,
Glad to hear Jamming is OK. Only know what i've seen in the frozen North. More l look at it, the more it makes sense. Lost my piece of paper with times and dates on it. Will be in touch.

You PM'd me some weeks back about the slow load times and your account. I replied giving you the information you requested but, it was a while ago now.

I have not been there much of late because of other committments but, do make a point of responding to PM's as and when i'm notified of them..

Hi Bud,

I can't tell you any more than l did in my PM and I am not privy to what goes on in there. Polishing your clock won't make it work any better, but it sure does make it look good. Time to stop polishing and fix what's broken. I'll say no more on it.

Actually, there is no active list of banned IPs. An old list which will soon be removed:

http://computercops.biz/ipbans.txt

And then Fortress™:

http://computercops.biz/fortress.csv

Yes I agree. IP banning is really not useful anymore, especially once we switch from IPv4 to IPv6. Today many ISPs use dynamic IP for IPv4 anyway.

I don’t know of any such things, and we have dealings with many security companies.

TMOV it has been mentioned time and again there is no such device setup. You have also tried the other aliases on your computer anonymously, and you reported slow times:

http://ispcops.com/postp215323.html#215323
Other suggestions were made to you but to date you have not supplied any replies. For instance:

http://ispcops.com/postp230407.html#230407

I am in full agreement with this statement:

http://ispcops.com/postp227349.html#227349

As an example, you did try “telnet computercops.biz 80” and found your page render time cut in half:

http://ispcops.com/postp228781.html#228781

11 seconds. This means you were only processing the source code without the actual render.

I’m perplexed you’d say this JD because I’m the only one making code adjustments to the site. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to obtain any more useful information to determine what the actual problem is. As you can see much has transpired in this thread on the subject to no avail:

http://ispcops.com/postitle45181-120-0-.html

If you check the Engine page at the site (http://ispcops.com/modules.php?name=Powered) you will notice just what exactly powers the site. Much optimization and acceleration has been done in the past couple weeks. The front page sees page render times on average at 0.2 or 0.3 seconds.

Please note, that since the site is accelerated, all the PHP code is cached. Which means a lot of processing time than what you had previously known.

You can see that the Lexical Parser and Opcode Optimizer are all skipped thereby making a more streamlined engine performance. So I’m not sure why you make that statement?

i cant imagine anyone being so talented that they can't fix a simple site gripe.

As one notes in that 18 page thread from the link above, this seems to be more a networking issue than anything else. Membership is on the rise, and we’ve only received what, three complaints total about the page render times since the move to http://applicationx.net?

That’s not to say we haven’t looked or tried resolving this problem for you. No, on the other hand, the problem dominated our lives and others to try and improve the performance for you, that everyone else is consistently enjoying.

Time to stop polishing and fix what's broken. I'll say no more on it.

Mariner I hope that my explanations on optimization, debugging, profiling, etc can be of service for your understanding of running a public interactive content management portal. Its fun stuff, and requires an understanding of TCP/IP and beyond. I admit I don’t know everything and make lots of mistakes, but the point is, lots of folks worked on this issue, and aside from those affected, the problems do not point to CCSP.

I’ve asked for sniffer logs from those affected, and unfortunately, they have not been provided. I can only do so much with the tools and data I’m given to try and troubleshoot a member’s Internet connection.

If there is anything else I can help educate the folks here with on this subject please let me know. I can sure use more data to try and further isolate the problem, but until then, I cannot.

hello pual! wellcome here.

on the subject of this thread.i see what could be a problem on some peoples computers.

"Please note, that since the site is accelerated, all the PHP code is cached. Which means a lot of processing time than what you had previously known. "

this extra processor cpu cycles time useage just may be part of the problem.
and the chacheing of online pages. if the cpu is an older one and encumbered by modern running programs like av,spyware tools.,fiirewalls, and others this would be part of the page.load slow down. next is the amount of internet explorer cache space alocation.if to low it would have to delete and copy over files continusely. next if a larger cache is used on a badly defragmented drive this woulld be very slow. next if internet explorers cache is deleted every night like mine it could slow it down on first page acess every day.
now anther though very uncommon problem. could be your computer being routed through a third partys server unknown to you hackers play man in the middle and intercept all packets sent.and after reading copying etc. they resend.
lawinforcments do this same thing pinging can find this most time.but not allways. a real well done set up can send back spoofed pings. (whole art in its self)
jmho

Correction to my initial post with emphasis on correction:

Insofar as the caching is concerning, all the cached content is stored server side. This translates to even less processer time access.

Everything I've done has decreased not only PHP and MySQL usage, but also CPU usage. CCSP runs on multiple servers. Each server has Dual XEON Processors.

Server load is consistenly 1 or lower. They are not taxed at all.

And optimization is increasing.

If the servers were struggling, CCSP would not be able to achieve 300,000 or more single page hits per day.

there isn't anything wrong with a public discussion of the problem.
the attempt to find the site gripe still is ongoing.'and if i discuss it with someone else at a different location, then that is a matter of simply trying to find out who knows what about the issue.
do you want to keep this in the public realm or do you want to continue sending me private chastisements?
like this.

there are sensitive feeling here i can see that.
but no one can tell me to stop looking for the answers.
so whom ever it was that decided to play a game that people play called
"let's you and him fight"
you are the problem here , not any one else.

i think this should stay on the original thread at ccsp.
and not on suzi's site.
the only reason i talked about it here is because i can.
that means im able to use the site and not become frustrated by latency issues.
