I was recently infected with three visitors:
xcpthook1
fakealert!grb
tdss.e!rootkit
in a "drive-by" from a gossip site.
The computer in question was running IE8 with McAffee (what a joke) and I might as well have been standing along the road with my pants down. It was a company PC and underprotected.
Question I have is would these have gotten by so easily with IE9, and MS Security Essentials? Or Chrome, or the latest Firefox? What defends the best against these threats? If I can get some good advice, I will follow it.
If there is somewhere I can read up on this type of threat I'd be happy for a link.
Thanks!

If you want advice on how to improve your computer's defences, please read the following article .... http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=557960#p557960
Generally speaking, your browsing habits contribute more to your online security than which particular AV program you are using.
As for which browser, it is always provident to use the latest version of any browser that is compatible with your Operating System, since they will contain the latest security patches. _________________ Gary R Administrator at Malware Removal University
