|
|
I have a few of them and they take forever. Zone alarm took nearly 20 hrs! I'm using Vipre from Sunbelt now and so far it's at nearly 14 hrs! I thought that maybe it's because my comp has a ton of files I don't know. Or maybe it's just because it's old. (Pent 2 400 mhz) Can anyone tell me why they are taking so long and give me some advice on how to speed them up?
Thanks |

Are you running several AV's with the realtime scanning on?
That'll both slow down your system and stop the AV's working properly. Only run one in r/t. _________________ Inperfect. |

The Pentium 2 400 mhz is probably the biggiest reason the scans are slow. Make sure you turn off other AVS when you are scanning with one, and close any unneeded programs. And like aBenG said, run only one in real time. _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security

Having more than one antivirus with real time protection installed can cause problems - even if real time protection is only turned on in one of the programs.
I suggest you uninstall all antiviruses except for one. As a backup scanner you can use AntiVir http://www.free-av.com/
It's free and there is an option when you install it to not install the real time protection.
Your computer may also be running slowly due to not having adequate RAM. Since your machine is only running at 400mhz I presume you have Windows 98, Me, or 95 for your operating system. I suggest you upgrade to 512 megabytes of RAM (or 1 gig if you are running XP). If you go to www.crucial.com they have a memory scanner which will analyse your system and tel you what your options are for dding more memory. |

I suggest you use the free version Avast www.avast.com
and as I suggested previously you may want to you AntiVir as a secondary scanner. |
