Hi! Out of curiosity, does a spyware have any sound recording capability? If not now, will it happen in the future?
Thanks! |

If you have a microphone or video camera attached then anything installed could record from those devices. I haven't heard of any recent malware doing this. The objective of the vast majority of this stuff is to generate money and in an automated fashion. They would need to send the audio or video back and then have software automatically sort through it and find info that would benefit them...
In the early 90s I believe it was sun that shipped a workstation that had a built-in microphone and hackers would use the mic. Then in the last 90s you had trojans like backorifice, netbus, etc and all or most of them could record from microphones or cameras attached to the computers. Then maybe about a year or so ago you had hackers thought to be from south america that were hacking in to the security camera systems of stores. They would then call the stores and ransom them for money. I believe they would say they had the store wired with explosives (which they weren't) and they would give orders and of course could see if people followed them... The people in the store didn't understand how the people on the phone new what they were doing... |
