Does anyone use Ad-Aware, & if so how does it compare with other anti-malware programs?
Does it have anything unusual or interesting to offer as freeware? |

AdAware (by Lavasoft, not Lavacool ) is by far one of the worst AM applications around (in stark contrast to what it used to be).
Personally I wouldn't recommend it. _________________ Regards

I tried it a few weeks back aftern not having used it for a very long time, and it had serious problems with false posatives.
It is commont for anti malware program to pick up a few legitimate registry keys or files (particuarly registry keys) as being bad, but Ad-Aware picked up more than other legitiamte antispyware apps.
In the past however, I've encountered no siginificant issues with false posatives from Ad-Aware.
There are much better free antispyware programs available. |

Yes thanks for that. I found it was a bit dodgy as well so I uninstalled it. It doesn't get on too well with Spybot either. It was highly praised on this forum though. It just goes to show that products don't always improve as they develop. Spybot is having a big make-over soon. I hope they don't go the way of Ad-Aware! |

IN general agreement about ad-aware
however
last month in the Avast Forum Ad-aware found a real infection missed by spybot and MBAM
ya never know
you have to watch for fp's with all of these apps |

| That's what worries me. I may have kept it but it clashed with Spybot & seemed a little unstable to me. I might look at it again someday. I am sure it will be improved. |

I am still on dial up and pitched ad-aware because it had frequent huge updates that became annoying.
And subsequently found a benchmarking program I use went up by about 5% in terms of overall computer performance. Somewhat odd because usually adding or removing programs has no effect on these benchmarks. |

| I think it just goes to show that my instincts were correct then. There is definitely something not totally right with it. It was highly praised at one time. |

I've found MalwareBytes Anti-Malware to be very effective. I haven't used Ad-Aware since they closed the old support forum. _________________ Speak softly, but carry a big Winchester ... Winchester Arms Collectors Association member
