I just got an e-mail from PC Pitstop that wanted me to try Exterminate 2.0. The web page sounds like a bunch of hype to me but I might give the free scan a shot.

I didn't have any luck I installed it and I downloaded 49 megs of definition files - but when I try to do a scan I just get an error - Scanning Failed!

I rebooted and ran it again - suprisingly it again downloaded 49 megs of updates, and again too the scanning failed.

There is deinately something wrong here as it awlays downloads nearly 50 megs of updates everytime I run it.

Not sure why it's not working I don't have UAC enabled under Vista - so it is running with full administrative access - and I no real time protection of any kind running.

We're looking into this.... hopefully IntelGuy (who is in charge of these products) has an answer. I've notified him with TeMerc's question.

Thanks for the information. I foolowed the directions and I am in running a scan now.

The scan is running but it seems to think that XMPlay - a free MP3 player is some kind of spyware as shortly after starting a scan it was terminated. Seems strange that it suddenly exited as I've never had an problems with it before.

I will post back here when the scan is completed.

Makes it seem like a product aimed at more technically orientated users than regular users.

Pressing Next to me to the low level threats page, and one rogue program was classified as VIPRE.Suspicious - this means they are using Sunbelt's VIPRE engine for their scanning.

I haven't got much to say on this as I have not run VIPRE since the first betas were released some time ago, however I uninstalled my paid version of CounterSpy a long time ago due to it giving me too many false posatives.

Your best bet would be to post directly to PC Pitstop in the topic that Tom and I have already posted to:

This is not a Spyware Warrior problem Wink

I was able to update and scan, nothing found.

Hope to get the system buggered up soon for a real test tho.
