Hi there, I am not sure if this was a good idea or what. I have AVG Anti-Malware 7.5 on a computer that has Windows XP Pro SP3 on it and it has been running okay since. About a week ago, my License number for it has expired and I went to get the upgrade to AVG Internet Security 8.0 rather than just a license number renewal.
However, after I have did the upgrade on the computer that has Windows XP Pro SP3, I was running a scan where I had it scanning within archives and I got two crash warnings where certain files somewhere have crashed the scanning engine, and then I ended up with the system restarting like something caused the blue screen of death. After I got the system back up, I turned off scanning within archives and then turned on scanning for RootKits when I noticed that wasn't on before. I did the scan again later, another scan engine crash warning from another file (this time in System Volume Information directory as I remember) and it completed without something causing the blue screen of death again.
Then sometime this morning, the auto scan that is set to start currently everyday @ 7:00 AM started at that time and something happened to cause the blue screen of death again as I have found the system restarted and I was like WTF. This time, I was forced to disabled the auto scan for now because I am not about to find out tomorrow that the system was restarted again. And I don't need this system being restarted every 24 hours because it is being used as a server with networking stuff on it. Other than this system, I have two other computers that I have not upgraded from the AVG Anti-Malware 7.5 yet as I am not about to do those next with the risk of having the same problems happening on those computers.
All I can find is that a lot of the warnings happen while the System Volume Information folder is being scanned and there seems that a lot of files that is being detected by it as HackTool.DHA that have been moved into the Virus Vault from that same folder. And when I get a warning or crash message that asks me to send a crash report to Microsoft or Grisoft, I usually just answer with yes hoping that will get them to realize that something is wrong here. Anyway, if anyone can help me figure this out, please let me know. |
