For anyone looking for a registry cleaner, you might want to have a look at Vit Registry Fix - it's free and does a very thorough registry scan - finds a lot more problems than most registry cleaners and gives very few false posatives.
I did a scan but no claenup with TuneUp Utilities and it found around 650 invalid entries.
After doing a scan and then several rescans I removed 3496 invalid registry entries.
I did another scan with TuneUp and it only found about 60 errors, so Vit Registry Fix works very well - considering Tuneup Utilities has one of the most thorough registry cleaners.
Note that TuneUp would have found and cleaned a lot more than the inital 650 errors - after doing a cleanup I would have been prompted to do another scan, which would have found more errors, and would have been prompted to do so a few more times. Vit found 2460 errors on the initial scan.

Vit Registry Fix - a powerful program to clean the registry of errors and outdated data. The program has a powerful tool for automatic scanning and removal of many different types of errors. Vit Registry Fix can find more than 50 varieties of options for errors in the registry.

Like TuneUp Utilities it gives you the option rescan certain parts of the registry after doing a cleanup if it thinks there might be more errors to find. It is updated very frequently.
Also it comes with a registry compacter, a disk cleaner, a startup manager and an uninstaller.
You can get it here:

The webpage is in Russian but thanks to Google, here is a translation: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vitsoft.org.ua%2F&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=ru&tl=en
Just a few notes though, you should look carefully at the results from the Deep Registry scan - as sometimes needed registry entries can be picked up. Having said that the Deep Registry scan here seems to be safer than a lot I've seen.
It's also worth checking the results from other sections scanned as it does give occasional false posatives.
Also when I quit the program (running on Vista) wither the program crashes - or stays running (but the programs windows closes) using around 50% of my CPU time and I have to end it with Task Manager.
As a final note, 99% of "invalid" registry entries are harmless and cleaning the registry is generally not needed, but sometimes can be of use. |

You can't run a registry cleaner too often - you won't damage your computer by running a registry cleaner daily vs once a month.
The problem is that almost all registry cleaners detect at least some valid registry entries as being bad, and then in turn if you delete these entries you can have problems.
VIT Registry Fix is one of the safest registry cleaners, but it is always wise to check the found errors before deleting them. |
