i have kaspersky internet security 2009 and im not sure if it does anything about spyware.
ive noticed everything else like malware, anti-virus etc but nothing about preventing spyware.
should i be using a spyware program aswell?
or will kaspersky give me everything i need? (obviously i know it wont give me everything, but all i ask is a safe environment.)
thanks. |

We can't merge threads in this forum software.
Kaspersky has excellent spyware detection. You have options for what you want it to detect. In my version -- yours may be slightly different -- when you click settings > Protection, look where it says
Malware Categories. By default it has viruses, worms, trojans and hacktools checked. You have the option of checking Spyware, Adware and dialers, also Potentially Dangerous Software (Riskware). I recommend checking them all.
That said, it might not hurt to have an anti-spyware program to use as an on demand scanner. I would not have it running in real time with Kaspersky, unless it's passive protetection, like Tea Timer. Otherwise you can get lock ups and conflicts. _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security

I don't remember all the options in Ad-aware -- haven't used it for a long time. _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security

To SEAN M87,
Who bottom line asks does "Kaspersky internet security" have spyware protection.
And bottom line answer is YES, YES, and YES.
And for a mere sixty dollars a year for a single user, and Eighty dollars a year for three users, you too can have a SECURITY SUITE
that your mother and wyrmrider warned you against.
Oddly enough, of all the security suites on the planet, I would recommend Kaspersky as the best of that bad lot security suites if I was dealing with a computer user bound and determined not to learn a damn thing about computer security. At least you get a first class AV, a half way decent but not a first class firewall, and I cannot comment on the rest.
And I hope I do not anger Gary R and many others by putting word into their mouth, but bottom line, computer security is a way of life and you cannot rely on any set of software to protect you against your own stupidity.
Pardon me if I say that spyware warrior is not the only security forum and there are a wide variety of opinions, but bottom line, there are mean nasty rascals on the internet bound and determined to infect our computers with exploits for fun and profit.
And you SEAN M87, have been smart enough to find this websites that advocates smart users who read about the various exploits the bad guys use, and then take the corrective steps to reduce their many vulnerabilities that no suite can possibly address.
We can lead you to water, but we cannot make you drink. |
