i am trying to login to my forum and i can't. i type the username and password and i see my name on the online users but can't post. it says i'm not logged in yet. it's in proboards..

You provide little information so the odds aren't high someone will accidentally stumple upon the problem. Have you had this problem from the beginning or was it caused by a recent change of your configuration (cookie settings, browser switch/upgrade)?

Without knowing any details I can imagine three situations causing the problems you're seeing:

• The server isn't able to permanently store a cookie on your system and therefore isn't able to verify it's actually you. In this case you needed to change your browser settings so that cookies from the forum domain are unconditionally accepted. Consult your browser's help for details on how to change your cookie settings, that shat should point you in the right direction
  
• In case you do accept cookies from this domain, chances are you're behind a proxy cache that rotates ip addresses with each request. In this case it would be the forum software that isn't capable of handling rotating ip addresses and assumes it would be a different user -> login prompt.
  
• Furthermore this could indicate insufficient rights. Perhaps your account hasn't been validated yet and is therefore not allowed to post or in case it had been earlier, the rights may have been revoked by the administrator for some reason.

I'm not sure whether the right answer is amongst the collection, so use if with caution (cue disclaimer).
