Greetings from the USA! And how might you all be doing on this fine Sunday morning? Quite well, I hope.

Here are my stats:

- Student in high school (bleh--sucks to be me!)
- Loves computers, but ultimately knows nothing about them (as you can see by my uber-cute signature poem)
- Loves music

Uh.. I'm not interesting, I promise.

This whole thing started when I tried to update iTunes.. oops, that story doesn't go here. So yeah. I must go seek help in the proper forum!

Anyway, HELLO EVERYONE!!! Very Happy

Actually I found Erikalbert's reply to your overly poetic subject line quite funny. Something you'd expect the least after such an introduction Laughing

Shakespeare wrote:
Romeo! humours! madman! passion! lover!
Appear thou in the likeness of a sigh:
Speak but one rhyme, and I am satisfied;
Cry but 'Ay me!' pronounce but 'love' and 'dove;'
Speak to my gossip Venus one fair word,
One nick-name for her purblind son and heir,
Young Adam Cupid, he that shot so trim,
When King Cophetua loved the beggar-maid!
He heareth not, he stirreth not, he moveth not;
The ape is dead, and I must conjure him.
I conjure thee by Rosaline's bright eyes,
By her high forehead and her scarlet lip,
By her fine foot, straight leg and quivering thigh
And the demesnes that there adjacent lie,
That in thy likeness thou appear to us!

Something like that as response would have been more appropriate, but not as much fun, though Wink

I've got no objections against it, but that's just my personal opinion and my weakness for obscure ideas like this catchy subject line Wink. So I'm afraid I can't give you any relief in regard to the question how others may feel about it.

This dialogue in itself was sort of funny, how your attempts at making a good impression and attracting attention were thwarted by an emotionless single word reply. Difficult to explain, it's got nothing to do with you as a person but merely with the course of the conversation.

May have been a good start for a Monty Python sketch or so... Wink

Exactly, my point. You want to be one of us (one of them really since I'm not one of them...us... whatever), you need to work for it, no shortcuts, no fake chummy introductions...

We are really all the same here, just at different points or paths along the road. There isn't any "us" or "them" except for the member/nonmember distinction. Other than that we are all "us".

@Erikalbert: You must be one of "us" as 1) you registered here as a member and activated that membership, 2) you post here, 3) others interact with you, and 4) you have not been banned.

I'm afraid your point isn't quite my point here. Perhaps SailorTriforce's self introduction wasn't quite conventional, but remember you raise your voice in a forum that is read by many many persons. That's just like speaking in front of a large audience. Not everyone is capable of doing it without being nervous, in particular if you come here as someone that has to admit a kind of defeat/weakness and ask for help as last resort.

Under "normal"* circumstances some people would shake their heads and criticise you for your "stupidity". It's not happening here, which is a great plus, but keep in mind people automatically expect it could happen if they made this experience several times before. Sometimes you have to wait a bit longer before you can judge a person, but that's just my personal experience that may not apply to others (cue disclaimer) Wink

Actually I got your point perfectly. I fully understood the humourous intent of SailorTriforce, and my response was calculated exactly to achieve the results you pointed out. Yes, I'm aware playing the straightman is a an art form itself.

What I might have missed though due to an overly quick reading is that he was really asking for help as opposed to just wanting to chat.

We are really all the same? That's a nice sentiment, it really is Oldfrog but you know it ain't true.

In reality there is the "us" who are MVPS and various helpers (some retired), and the "us" who are not. And then there is I. Smile

We can also safely ignore the "us" who post here for help and then disappear.

I respectfully disagree with that. There are a number of members here who are neither MVPs nor "helpers" (in the HJT sense, at least) whose competency I highly respect. I think that we, the community at large, does a good job of also respecting those whose competency may be less but who are looking for answers. There must be, as you imply, a dividing line somewhere between those of us who "know" and those of us who "don't know". At the same time I don't know where on the spectrum of experience/knowledge here that line falls. It probably falls in different places for different people. You fall somewhere on that spectrum as well, and not nearly as low on it as you sometimes like to suggest. Very Happy

Let's face it, you have an ability to rub people the wrong way and make them suspicious of your motives. Repeatedly asking the same question after being told that it is not open to discussion doesn't really help that image. On the positive side, you have started some good topics here and made some posts that were rather insightful. I personally read all of your posts with interest.

Thanks for clarifying your position. You seem to have a good sense for other people's weak spots. That's a gift useful for psychotherapists or social workers, but on the other hand there's always some kind of risk to use it as a weapon. Weapons should only be used to defend oneself when being attacked (in my opinion).

Hm, playing sounds suspicious to me. Wouldn't being it a better alternative? Wink

I find your last sentence pretty condescending!

"Not nearly as low ...." okay so you are saying I'm not a low grade idiot or Imbecile but a high level functioning moron? Thank you very much. Very Happy

But that's okay I'm used to be condescended to. Deserve it even sometimes.....

meps, meps

SailorTriforce, I'm sorry your introduction got hijacked in such a graceless manner, but rest assured it is not always so contentious here, although (dare I say?) no one is afraid of challenging and being challenged. A good bunch, but kinda rowdy sometimes, that's all. Smile

Best wishes.
