Page rank in Google's in view is simply their opinion of a webpage, a expression of Google's free speech.

I have a article which expresses free speech about Page Rank and the Google tool bar, I would like some opinions on the viewpoint stated in the article by the members here.

Please give YOUR opinion of the Google toolbar in this thread...

well alexa is out and out known spy ware.
google dose not play fair on page ranking. look at how they gave faulse spybot searches for fake spybot search and destroy top searches.over the real searches. and those that spoke out agianst this don,t no longer show up as aften in google searches.
check your selfs in google searches a than in new amazon search enteries.
and you will see your google hits on your name drop off by 1/2.
no i don,t trust google.
but your spamming for alexia i trust less.

1)Google is no different from any other service provided gratis for end users. They have to pay for it somewhere along the line or go bust.
2)It's the same principle as the banner ads in the free version of Opera
3)There are lots of other toolbars
4)There are lots of other search engines
5)Prove to me that Google installs anything covertly.

What is the difference, if ignorant folks download it with permission, it is still data mining software used to target ads back and to provide real time MIS for Google managers to find out high traffic sites to place more ADSENSE on.

If ALEXA is considered spyware and it is not covertly installed why do you not consider the Google toolbar spyware, explain that for us please.......

Spyware is spyware if it is covertly installed or with permission.

Here is Mike Healan's take on the google toolbar. I can't find a date on his article but it seems very relevant.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/googleupdater/

Quote:
I am really sad about this situation. It's like idolizing the local high school quarterback as being the perfect role model. He is clean cut and honest; he is smart and friendly; and parents point their younger children to him as someone to emulate. Then, one day, you are behind him in a supermarket and watch as he pockets a pack of cigarettes and walks out without paying for them. It reduces him in your mind, and the image of him as a role model is shattered.

Worth reading the entire article.

Also this from the forum there.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41737

Quote:
Google and RealNetworks announced today that the Google Toolbar is being distributed with RealPlayer 10 downloads. Now, not only Googlers will have the Google Toolbar installed in their IE browser, but by making the Google Toolbar available to the very large number of consumers who install the new RealPlayer 10 every day, Google Toolbar is sure to be popping up on the browsers of more everyday computer users and possibly the browsers of people who prefer Yahoo or other search engines.

Google + RealNetworks = trouble IMO.

Question - how does one find their page rank on Google anway? My site is small but is listed in the top 5 hits for some search terms.

I didn't say that I don't consider it to be spyware.

Quote:
What is the difference

The difference is that the Google Toolbar is relatively benign (so far), as are their searches (albeit we do often see paid ads for the promotion of products which include spyware) but that doesn't mean that we have to click on the links. The old thought that 'if you don't find it in the first ten answers to your search' went out the window a long time ago, in my opinion, not just with Google.

What, only ignorant people read the EULA and still agree to the installation of spyware? I've cleaned a lot of machines, some of which belong to some very intelligent people.

Well at least there's one thing we agree about.

Cookies can be considered to be dataminers too, would you care to rant about them next?

Google is not the only search engine out there. Granted it's popular, but I get excellent results using a free program called Web Ferret. Web Ferret works independantly from any browser and can be configured to work with any browser. I swear by it.

SUZI is quoted below

Question - how does one find their page rank on Google anway? My site is small but is listed in the top 5 hits for some search terms.

A brilliant young man who does custom programs made a page rank tool to get toolbar rank without the toolbar.

I guess you should have a right to know your "Larry Page Rank" without Larry knowing that you went to the bathroom.

The link is here

SUZI thank you for posting the article, I put it on my webpage that was posted in the first post......

I do not agree with his opinion on "Google does not sell search results" You can see why at the following research study.

But he makes excellent points on the Toolbar (spybar) from Google.

Can you have him look at the above research study, at webcenter in the link above, I was looking for his email address at the site and could not find it. I would like him to look at the study so he can correct his article.....

You can contact Mike Healan directly at SpywareInfo.com. He is the site owner.
