Real player, yes ive noticed how it seems to take over when playing cd,s or dvd,s,but ive also noticed thay it starts up even when i use my msi dvd player, and i havent even asked for it to!
it than hangs,so i have to switch to task manager to shut it down!
so my question is,should i get rid of it??
if so, is there a "clean" alternative so that i can still play rm format files?thanx in advance ,any help ,info very welcome. Embarassed Embarassed Question

I regularly use Real without issue when listening to NPR stuff. You need to ditch RealPlayer's more recent versions and return to a non-RealOne version.

Removal - reboot - and a trip to http://www.oldversion.com/ were all it took to achieve .RM bliss. Idea

you might want to try two applications..

video lan client - plays practically all media types, without the need for installing codecs. not sure if this comes with real alternative, but if it doesn't
real alternative - a 3rd party developed set of real media codecs for use in almost any media player.

i use real alternative along with media player classic, and i'm able to view real media streams, and local files without any problem what so ever. No malware, no bloated media players, no hassle. Smile

enjoy

I don't have problems with real 10.5, but I did check through preferences in the tools menu carefully to tame it. No autoupdate, no messenger center, file associations limited to those that I want to use it for, etc.
