Finding the right place to get information on trojans, spyware, and other malware is challenging, especially with the malware folks trolling for people trying to get help. How did I find this site anyway? That is the story I am telling now.
I have been using the Firefox (Mozilla) browser (happily) for about a week. Occasionally I was getting a message that a numerical URL wanted to run a certain script named blank.*, did I want to download it to disc or what application did I want to run it from? I kept hitting the x to kill the window—as I did not want to do either. The popup was actually intruding on whatever I was doing. Eventually I did a web search for that URL. Of several hits, one was a message in another sites forum. The author reported that he had gotten his answer *here* and I followed that link to you. That was yesterday.
MS IE does not give a popup like that when something is trying to happen. Had I not been running Firefox I might never have found you. It surprises me that the request was coming in at all as I have a personal firewall.
I have followed the suggestions on one of the “read me first” notices at this site. I already was using SpyBot and SpywareBlaster. I had previously used Ad-Aware but had uninstalled it after concluding that the SB pair were doing what needed to be done. This afternoon I downloaded, updated and ran AA. It is a newer and stronger version of AA then the one available before. It reported 9 critical things.
Unless you are diligent, even if you know what you are looking for (more or less) the SB pair are hard to find without knowing their specific URLs. It is easier to find the trolling sites then the better ones. (The go*ogle search engine has been my engine of choice. Maybe I need to reconsider that. Trollers seem able to get allies who put up many links and accordingly push the search engine weighting of the trolling site higher. That makes it hard to find the site even though in these instance I knew what I was looking for. Why search engines don't do a better job of leading seekers to the best help perhaps should be within the scope of the SW site. Browser issues probably already are.)
Thank you, Suzi, and all who are making Spyware Warrior a good place to get help. You have organized good information here.
One of my computing issues is out of the purview of Spyware Warrior. Twice I choose an ISP for hosting sites poorly. I used to run a few not for profit small sites. These have been down over a year for want of an ISP. When I try to search for a good one, I seem mainly to find another kind of troller. My hope is to find something like SW oriented for people with ISP issues. That is not something to discuss in this “hello it’s me” forum but with only one small encouragement from an admin I will post a thread on that on the general forum. I will also search this site for posts on that. (I did not find a search tool here. I decided that it was because I was not registered. I will have another look for that now.) |

Greetings GrumpyGuy, welcome to SpywareWarrior!
I hear what you're saying, I also "stumbled" across this site. If I hadn't done that, I would have never found it. Before I came here, I never heard of Firefox, and my protection consisted entirely of Norton AV and Adaware . I never would have imagined keeping my computer safe was a part-time job, I'm glad this site and sites like it exist. I hope you stick around and enjoy your time here, there is plenty of useful information floating around these forums
I never had a website, so I can't help you there, but try posting in the General Discussion or Talk About It Forum. I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.
If you still haven't found it, the "Search" button is in the upper right of the screen |

Yes, the search "button" is there as Blinn described. I was expecting the search to have a text entry box and overlooked it before. I did search for hosting and ISP and did not get anything on my topic. I agree with Blinn's suggestion, I will ask about it on the general forum. I thank Blinn for his greeting and remarks. |
