Hi all! I want to thank you again for helping me back in august when i had a spyware problem.
i am on the other family computer at the moment and have a new fun story to tell.
a month or so ago, we re-upped our subscription to mcafee anti-virus, after downloading the new software, and installing it, paying the 70+ dollars for the software and subscription, we had a week with no problems. after this short week however, no one but my user account could access the internet. after searching the website for help, and seeing the scam where you can pay $3/min for help or $50 odd dollars for tech support i opted to talk to the tech online. after waiting an hour for an available tech support i proceeded to tell my tail to various people and was instructed to do various things. over the course of 4 hours they only proceeded to ..screw up my computer. they had me editing stuff in the registry and deleting files that had do do with mcafee. after the final instructions they gave me, i was left with the following.
all of everyones favorite places were gone, all desktop shortcuts, all digital photos and such that were stored on the hard drive.
we did get a referral to software called recover my files, but a lot of the files recovered were corrupted somehow. basically my question is:
is there any way we can get our files back? i figured some of the knowledgable wiz's here could help me out if anyone! thanks!

That's a sad tale
When they had you delete those files, are they still in the Recycle Bin?
Or, what's your OS?
Perhaps you can Restore to a previous configuration? _________________ Proud member of the Chest Zipper Club! |

nope they were not in the recycle bin or anywhere else.
i'm running win xp... (and leaning towards switching to a mac-but that's neither here nor there)
and no system restore was somehow disabled, because after everything disappeared, and i was told they "understood my concern" concern.. right! but yes, the restore point was set for after all the changes had been made.
(sigh)
yours,

Oh!
Well, perhaps someone else will come along here and suggest some other methods of recovering those files. For once, I have no other advice to offer, sorry _________________ Proud member of the Chest Zipper Club! |
