Hi Greyland. ActiveX are downloaded by many sites you visit. They enhance your viewing of the site. Not all sites DL them. Some are bad, for this reason you should install SpywareBlaster. It will block any known bad ActiveX installs and keep your machine clear. Once installed, and activated, thats it, all you need to do is occasionally update it. If you click the link below my sig, I have the link for it, and a tutorial as well.

As for specifically asneering your qustion, it really depends on where your talking about. Do you have your Internet Zonse set up? Trusted, Restricted?

Here is a tutorial for you to setup IE. IE Tweaks

There you will get alot more detailed info about all the items I mentioned.

Hope that hepls some. Cool

The safest setting for Active X controls is disable. However there are times when you might want to enable it or set it to prompt in the Internet zone. You should always have it disabled in the restricted zone (and use IE-SPYAD, which puts dangerous domains in the restricted zone).

This is the best tutorial I've seen anywhere for Internet Explorer settings:

There are great screenshots and detailed instructions.
