|

Anyone know if this P2P service is any good? My kids are bugging me for a music download site. A dude at work said his daughter uses this. (The PAY service, as it has no spyware, nagware, etc)
I do not want to download anything that could potentially mess up my computer.
Thx! |

Almost any of the non bigname sites are gonna be suspect. Meaning they will have the potential for troubles regarding DLs which contain all sorts of malware.
First thing I would suggest is..........
Any form of file sharing is leaving yourself open to infection every single time you DL something, Be sure you have Ad-Aware , Spybot v. 1.3 , Spyware Blaster & Spyware Guard, IESPY ADS , MVPS Hosts, WinPatrol , at the very least. And follow these IE Tweaks
And be sure your AV defs are up to date as well. Along with a tightened firewall.
And then, going by my brothers experiences, after having KaZaa Lite++ and still getting infections so badly I spent about 2-3 hours cleaning him up, he switched to WIN MX, which he says is much better, tho the selection not as good as the other.
Hope that helps some, sorry, don't have any specific info regarding Limewire, other than we recommend removal whenever we see it. But that goes for all the other P2P file sharing apps too. _________________

Well the old lime wire is no good thats where alot of my probs started but the new one is good. When you downloaded the old version you would have all these ad-ware programs on. I just downloaded the new version a few days ago and none of that stuff came with it this time. So yeh Lime Wire (the new version) is good. But be careful what you download Have fun theres alot of good stuff on there. _________________ www.UZforums.com

I've used Shareaza for file sharing. It works and isn't bundled with anything. Just be sure to scan your downloads before you open them, especially those from P2P. Lots of trojans. You might want to look into some additional security precautions too, especially if you're after music. A few CDs isn't worth getting sued over.
