|
|
Hi All:
As promised, I just posted a mjor update to the "Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware" pages.
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
Included in this update are 5 new applications:
Adware Hitman
Easy Erase Spyware Remover
GoodbyeSpy
Privacy Tools 2004
SpyVest
Adware Hitman, Easy Erase Spyware Remover, Privacy Tools 2004, and SpyVest are clones of other applications.
I've also created a new "family" on the "family Resemblances" page for NoSpyX, Spyware Stormer, and SpyVest:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/family_resemblances.htm#5
Comments, questions, observations, and suggestions are, as always, most welcome.
Best,
Eric L. Howes |

According to my web stats, the rogues page has had about 52,000 page views since it was first published on June 26.
Great work Eric! _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security

Hi All:
Yet another update to the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware pages:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
Included in this update are 3 new applications:
2004 Adware/Spyware Remover & Blocker
AdWare SpyWare Blocker & Removal
SpyBeware
...all of which are part of the AdwareSpy/AdwareX Eliminator family:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/family_resemblances.htm#3
That family, you might recall, is the one that produces the most ridiculous false positives of all the applications that I've tested. It's also become the biggest family of anti-spyware applications that I know of, with no less than 9 different clones. Why people keep licensing this garbage is beyond me -- perhaps because the GUI is such a slick rip-off of Ad-aware 6.0.
The main Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware page now lists 75 different applications. ( ! ! ! ) In any case, happy reading.

Hi All:
The fun just doesn't stop. Yet another significant update to the "Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware" pages:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
In this update are two new applications:
* CoffeeCup Spyware Remover (coffeecup.com)
* TrueWatch (truesuite.com)
The CoffeeCup app happens to be another clone of PAL Spyware Remover (palsol.com), which puts it in Family # 8:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/family_resemblances.htm#8
Also of interest, I finally managed to locate a trial version for an app that had been listed on the page previously:
* Privacy Defender (pcsecurityshield.com)
The "rogue" apps page now lists 75 applications.
Best,
Eric L. Howes

Hi All:
They just keep coming. In the past 48 hours there have been three new additions to the "Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware" pages:
* Anti-Virus&Spyware (anti-viruses.net/your-soft.com)
* Spy-Ad Exterminator (oreware.com)
* The Adware Hunter (theadwarehunter.com)
The first two apps are oddball apps that appear to have no relation to any other application whatsoever. Spy-Ad Exterminator is completely free, though not worth bothering with even at that price. Both of these oddball apps are prone to ridiculous false positives, though. You can find screenshots of both on the Orphans & Outcasts page:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/orphans_outcasts.htm
The Adware Hunter is another of Bilal Ahmed's clones, so that places it in family # 7:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/family_resemblances.htm#7
The Adware Hunter is also advertised as completely free for now, but I've a sneaking suspicion that's just being used as a loss leader. It'll likely go for-pay at some near point in the future. And when it does, the company will be able to draw on the potential subscriber base it's building by requiring email contact info to download the free version.
Best,

Hi All:
One minor update: addition # 87 to the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware pages is the curiously named Botsquash (botsquash.com).
Aside from having a completely inadequate (and outdated) ref database, the biggest problem with this application is that the only thing it squashes is itself. By that I mean the trial version expires IMMEDIATELY -- the very instant you press the "Scan" button. (A demand for payment follows soon after.)
This piece of garbage has found a place on the Orphans & Outcasts page:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/orphans_outcasts.htm
I should also note that the Spybot Search & Destroy rip-off 1-Click SpyClean was added two days ago.
Best,

The one that pi**es me off - if you Google "hijack this" (without the quotes) you get two ads at the top, both to NoAdware sites, one called www.hijack-this.net - ACK!!
From 3162 >> I added the **
