At least they have been consistent over the years...hardly surprising...even somewhat nostalgic. 
I made it a practice to avoid CNET DLs many yrs ago and we use our strictest filter sets for visiting CNET related domains. I've never even considered changing that policy.

Indeed!  They seemed to have cleaned up their act for a while after receiving a lot of bad press, but I guess it didn't last. The money is too good. I was told that reportedly Zugo is paying over $2.00(maybe even 3) per install. Lots of Google results if you search the words zudo cnet.
This article shows Nmap bunded with Babylon toolbar. We people here asking for help removing it, and it's detected by many anti-malware apps.

Thank you suzi. download.com is now in my restricted zone.
I'm also careful with Softpedia and Major Geeks, though I can't remember hearing anything bad about them. I don't really trust any third party sources. I always go to the website the program is originating from, but sometimes they forward you to third party hosts/mirrors. |

This is a bad move from CNet, however on the positive side at least you can opt out of installing the bundled software. Also I'm sure that the software bundled is not harmful, probably just often unwanted.
I rarely download software from download sites, preferring to download from the author's site. I do this not only to ensure I get the most recent version, but also because I download my files with the download manager FlashGet - and I use it daily to check for updated versions of the software i download (currently well over 200 programs and growing weekly).
However while I don't usually download from them, I visit download sites daily to have a look at the newly listed software. |
