What Virus protection is recommended for windows 98se besides Avast free, I heard they are going to end support later this year or by this time next year.
I just didnt want to download a free virus protection program that could be spyware or a virus.
I would even consider a dos scanner like f-prot before it could not be updated anymore.
I would be willing to pay for the virus protection. Right now I can not get a new computer.
Sorry, didn't know where to post this. |

Give ClamWin a try;
www.clamwin.com
It doesn't come with a realtime scanner, so is only useful as an on--demand/scheduled scanner.
The only one I'm aware of that comes with realtime protection and still supports 9x, is Eset;
http://www.eset.com/products/win9x.php
I'd still recommend having ClamWin (it's open source by the way, so you don't need to pay for it) in addition to the realtime scanner. _________________ Regards

eset.com is the real one, the other one is a rogue and should be avoided like the plague it is. _________________ Regards

Steven, why are you saying betterantivirus is rogue? It looks genuine -- like a reseller.
At the bottom of the page it says:

| BETTERANTIVIRUS.COM℠ is a US based reseller of Eset Software's NOD32 Solutions |

It was my mistake I'm afraid, I misread it as Abetterantivirus ..... (followed it for a while until it went down late last year). _________________ Regards

Both DrWeb and Sophos are legit vendors.
The Sophos DOS scanner seems to be free (certainly can't see any mention of costs). You may want to contact them to double check this however.
If you are in doubt as to which vendor is legit and which is not, feel free to ask _________________ Regards
