The subject line sorta says it all. I've been using the free version of ProcessGuard for a few years now and I generally like it. I tried WinPatrol quite some time ago and for some reason, at the time, felt more comfortable with PG. I see that PG has a new free version (3.500) and I will try that now (I was using v3.410).
So, which is "better" for you? _________________ “He saw reality too clearly. Faulty denial mechanism.

Perhaps a point or two to help you decide;
I don't really know much about the free version of PG but I'm certain that it too operates at the sys(krnl) level and indeed is what I refer to as a process firewall. Unless it has changed drastically in the near past, Scotty is not. _________________ -

Anyone know the difference between PG free and paid? (doesn't seem to be any mention of it on their site) _________________ Regards

Yes, I knew that PG is kernel-level protection (what attracted me to it in the first place). Didn't know that Scotty (WinPatrol) was not. Thanks for the info.
P.S. Before I forget, the Free vs. Full Comparo is on the PG download page. _________________ “He saw reality too clearly. Faulty denial mechanism.

Should I start a new topic (+ poll) for this:
How many SWW members are using the free version of ProcessGuard?
What would entice you to upgrade to the full (US$29.95) version?
Are there other, preferably free, apps that can provide the extra protection that the paid version of PG provides? _________________ “He saw reality too clearly. Faulty denial mechanism.

I just came back from the almost dead to say not in a million years. No offence to Scotty, he's great little watchdog and one of the best free apps you can get, but they [ PG - Winpatrol ] are just in two diff leagues.
Winpatrol is a lot more similar to Regrun than Processguard, but still Regrun is in a whole other league as well.
Free vs Paid, you get a LOT better protection here with both paid versions of Processguard and Regrun. Here's a little look at Regrun from awhile back:

I still use the same combination of Outpost / Processguard and Regun that I have used for many years, tested it voluntarily and involuntarily and it's pretty much bullet proof.
Just get the paid version of Processguard.. PG is a very small investment compared to the price of your PC, but worth every cent and a lot more value than anything else you can ever buy for your PC.. Good luck finding any free apps that can offer same level of quality protection.
System Saftey Monitor free was a great alternative to PG , but it's no longer available.
Yes I use full paid version of PG and I am not a Processguard salesman, but yeah I would love to be one.
Just my personal opinion.. _________________ | Stop Malvertising | Outpost | Blocklist Pro | Hosts | |

Hehe... good to see you Moore! Now I know what we have to do go get you here -- ask questions about ProcessGuard. _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security
