I am using SpywareTerminator and feel it is very good.
However, when it comes to out most security, is it the best option? Ar there better spyware removal tools that are both free and better? |

FWIW, that thread (the second) was last posted to well over a year ago.
Although relevant as a (partial) history lesson as to some of Crawlers' past business associations (a known spyware vendor), it is probably of little interest to the average user, unless that user wants to know the past history of the manufacturer of any software they install.
The company seems to be above board, now, and has been for over two years.
I last used the app. over a year ago. It was ok. In fact, at the time, it was probably the best free resident AS available. I became somewhat disillusioned with it when one of the employees at Crawler left, following a period of dispute over the direction the program was taking. I gained the impression they were pushing the toolbar at the expense of the programs' development, and it sorely needed more development.
It would be interesting to know if it's improved much since then; reading "between the lines" at the ST forum indicates it still needs some work. |

Blue
Some folks recommend ST only for the start at boot up "real time" protection it offers
Evidently the Scanner is not as effective as others
There are other choices for real time protection however I know of NO recent comparisons
some operating system dependent
Free
Spybot's T-timer
BO-Clean
Spyware Doctor via google Pack
Windows Defender (old giant anti spyware)
a hard to find version of CA Pest Patrol
Spyware Terminator
Spyware Guard- Javacool
all of the above have different emphasis and limitations
paid
A-Squared paid
MAlware Bytes Anti Malware paid
Super Anti Spywqare paid
Ad-Aware-pro
Sunbelt counterspy
Webroot spysweeper
you could also consider HIPS
some count Scotty on Patrol however Win Patrol is an after the fact scanner not real time- still valuable |
