I apologise for posting a link here, it is the only way I can be sure you know what I am talking about. The link is to an advertisement for 'AntispyBot' made by Windows Antispyware. I was advised to download the anti-spyware known as 'spybot'. Everyone seems to think it is superb & is supposedly a free download. As I was searching for this software I downloaded this, thinking that this was the freeware everyone was talking about. It seemed to look quite good & after a 50 minute scan found a lot of tracking cookies. However when I tried to implement the counter-measures it wanted me to register & make a 'one off' payment. I did not do this & uninstalled it from my computer. I have noticed in the Windows Security Center on my laptop (Vista Home Premium) in the Malware Protection -- Spyware and other malware protection -- it is still listed along with Superantispy & MS Defender. Although it is indicated as being 'off'. Later I installed Superantispy which seems very good.
Should I be worried about the fact that it is still listed as being in the Security Center?
Is there anything residual left on my hard drive do you think?

| I would not be worried about it - even if there are some traces of the app left, it is nothing to worry about as it harmless and has no real-time protection so there will be nothing which will interefere with other security software. |

I apologise again for posting the link. I didn't think it was a dangerous site to go to, I was just wondering about the efficacy of the spyware & the fact that they say 'free' when they mean a 'one off payment'. Thanks for the 'Hijack' info. |

Thanks roger_m, it seemed to uninstall easily. I have looked for anything residual, but I can't find anything. It says it is 'turned off' anyway in the security centre. |
