Users complain about last week's security update
Microsoft is investigating reports that last week's Internet Explorer security update has crippled some users' web connection. Users started posting messages to multiple Microsoft support newsgroups almost immediately after Microsoft released the MS07-069 security bulletin on December 11, saying that they were unable to connect to the internet, either because IE refused to open or because when it did open, it could not reach various sites.
"About 60 percent of the time, I would get an 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close' dialog,"...Others echoed those comments on IE-specific forums, noting that both IE6 and IE7 balked at loading, or while loading, some pages, particularly home pages, on both Windows XP and Windows Vista machines... |

| There are I beleive a couple of problems. There was reported that a download which in one of my computers was dated for Dec.12,2007 under #942615-it was stated as a cumulative update for Internet Explorer 7-This was thought to be the source of the problem, this reference was to another forum as some information was verifiable and some as of yet remain to be verified. The Dec.12th download was successful and though thought to be at the source was successful even after the fact of what was to come.It was thought that IE7 was the source and not as is stated Microsofts Document writer. There are two sets of links that I will provide which will take you to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867 as there was wide spread Hyperlinks being somehow disabled in particuliar as this applies to Outlook Express. There are proposed in the reference two separate methods to correct the problem in so far as Outlook Express is concerned. Internet Explorer as well is part of a series of repairs that this Microsoft knowledge base link will further provide http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_ie_methodtwo0100 There is the further possibility that some complaints are victums of malware and not necessarily tied to the download update. However in so far as that particuliar download is concerned on that failed update,it failed more than once. KB 934238 failure preceeded the Dec.12,2007 cumulative update,The failure occurred on Dec.10,2007 not Dec.12.There were 17 separate instances whereby that particuliar update attempted to load and all separate instances failed. These attempts occurred between Dec.10 through the 14th.This was suppose to be an update to improve Microsoft XPS Document writer marking an improvement in printing components. This problem has affected hyperlinks on my Verizon with MSN home page as I have lost use of any Hyperlinks, though elsewhere all seemed to be working ok.That elsewhere was just that, even if that elsewhere was Verizon.net. I attempted to get assistance from Microsoft support and was informed that there would not be any free support for IE7 and in fact it was fee based only. There was to be no free support for IE7. |
