Nice find, Suzi.

Could it be likely that these folk will just come back with a new name and the same old associations? It's taken 7 or 8 yrs to do any damage to them now. Wouldn't they be likely to be looking for another run at the $$$?

I could be wrong, but I think at least some of the people have restrictions applied to them, in the sense of having to disclose past affiliation, or not being allowed to work in net advertising or something like that. As the four main people have walked off with millions anyway they don't really have any real incentive to get back into the same industry because the slightest screwup would then probably result in Hammer Time from the FTC (well, that's the hope anyway).

So I don't think they'll be back. Yeah, they managed to walk off with a lot of money. But I think the aim of most people fighting these guys has always been to just get them offline as quick as possible - any depletion of their funds would have been a bonus, but when I was pounding away at these guys, the thought of stripping them of even a few hundred dollars would have been a pipe dream at best, never mind a million or more.

NYAG and the FTC suddenly showing up was a major WTF moment for many people, I think, probably myself included.

so the fine they were eventually hit with was a nice addition, but not essential - for me, anyway. get them offline, and get them offline as quickly as possible was always objective number one.

and hey, we got there in the end. hopefully.

Just caught it in passing this morning here:

Actually makes up for starting the day off with a Tivoli meltdown! Wink

Of course, there's still plenty of mopping up to do, but at least this source of sewage has stopped spilling. Applause

Indeed. I just wish the penalties in all these malware cases would amount to something more than a slap on the wrist.

Those who propagate garbage acquire buckets of untaxed $$$ by malicious and criminal fraud. They get rich while the common shoplifter goes to prison.

Don't get me wrong, I really am happy to see some action being taken through legal channels.
I guess that after fighting scumbags for almost a decade now and seeing all the folk that get physically sick durring the recovery period and cleaning up the mess and damage that is left after some scum attacks them in their home or office, I must be getting a bit cynical

nah, totally understandable. The biggest problem for anyone that battled any of the old guard of adware guys is trying to accept the fact that they might finally have been killed off but, by and large, the money they obtained isn't likely to leave their bank accounts anytime soon due to superlame fines from the FTC. Once we get around that, the choice is either to be happy that they finally bit the big one, or torture ourselves with the cash they ran away with. I have thought about this a lot, and ultimately I realised that, well, all we really have is some support forums and a bunch of blogs. we don't have any legal powers or legislative weight or anything like that, so all things considered, to land any sort of blow at all against some of these companies was (I feel, anyway) pretty impressive and something we can be extremely proud of. Once we've done our part, the whole legal fine thing is sadly out of our hands and we shouldn't worry about it too much.

Of course, if I had any say in the matter I'd happily crank up the Fine Machine to sixty bajillion dollars Twisted Evil
