Hello, I used to use Zone Alarm free firewall, but i saw the test results in a website (I found the website somewhere in wikipedia) and I decided to use Jetico free Firewall. What do you think?

I, myself, would rather use Comodo or Zone Alarm over Jetico, but hey, if you feel it is making you feel more secure, and not sucking up too much of your resourses, then go for it. There are worse ones than Jetico out there Wink

Have you done any leak tests on it?

On second thought, Jetico was OVER PROTECTIVE, i had to click a hundred times to make an application work.

Jetico was really too protective for me, because I don't live in America (37% of hacking attemps), and I don't watch Porn sites.

If we are talking FREE, and ONLY free, Comodo is still the way to go, IMO. Jetico Personal Firewall V1.0 was a first attempt by Jetico to produce a firewall. Besides Comodo it has the best performance for a freeware firewall against leak tests. However it has several quirks, such as not being installed as a service, and a very unconventional interface for firewall rulesets. They have since moved onto version 2 (not free). I have not tried the paid version of Jetico or Comodo, as I use Kaspersky Internet Security on all four of my PCs, two with Vista and two with XP. I feel Kaspersky's firewall is outstanding.

I'm currently using "Comodo Personal Firewall Pro" version 3.14.147648.588. and I have no idea whether I should update to the latest version or keep the one I have right now (as I've been reading on Cnet and dozens of other places problems with version 4 and up). I also read other problems like, you couldn't disable that "Defense+" crap, which is REALLY intrusive (and I found that out for myself when installing version-3 with the "Defense+" stuff enabled, and then later had to reformat my computer's hard-drive again and reinstall my security software (AVG, Spybot, Malwarebytes, SpywareBlaster, Comodo, etc) again, only this time, disable the "Defense+" stuff when installing Comodo.

i know i have to keep all my antivirus software and all that updated (i have the latest version of AVG that i can get [by using the "update"-feature, WITHOUT uninstalling my current version of AVG, downloading the latest version, and then installing it from scratch] (i had version 8 and i updated to version 9.0.856 by doing what i just said, clicking on "update" [from the "avg user-interface" window] and then updating to the latest-available-version [that it gave me to update to]), but, should i update to Comodo Firewall 5, or just stick with what i currently have?

keep in mind that i'm aware that now [stupid] Comodo merged their antivirus with their firewall, and personally, i DON'T want their antivirus. i want just their firewall and that's it (so how can i go about doing that? please guide me in the right direction step-by-step, on how to do that, and how to get JUST their firewall and that's it).

I wrote some code that would spot spyware and then place a firewall block in windows 7 firewall but then discovered that my IPS, BT-Home is giving out fake DNS results so i gave it in as a bad job and if you look at the number of address Google uses then it becomes a full time job and blocking Google results in half the internet not working.

it would be nice if we could use wildcards in our host files but MS won't want us to have real protection that works would they now.

I suspect i know more than most when it comes to keeping big brother out our lives and now feel the only effective way is to fight back by ensuring the data they collect becomes useless.

Every week i learn about new ways in which we are being monitored from AWT to a new form of history tracking using style sheets and javascript but thats not to say i'll give in the fight.

Does anyone know of anyone that promotes Google Free sites because it's about time we had one and i've moved over to Scroogle.org for my serach results having looked at googles ga.js that gets downloaded 100 times a day if i let them.

Kind of ironic that this page sort of blasts google, advises people to put those entries in their hosts file to completely block google, yet at the bottom is an ad for google.
