With Vista just out the door, Microsoft is now drawing up plans to deliver its follow-up client operating system by the end of 2009, according to the executive in charge of building the product's core components...Last year, Microsoft said that the code name for this Vista follow-up is Vienna....

Seems to me that folks may just wait for the new OS instead of going to Vista.

May as well. It's fairly usual to only go to every other OS, unless there's a valid business / personal reason for not doing so.

You can spend a lot on technology, and while one does want to keep up-to-date, there has to be a limit to how much you spend.

That's an interesting story...

Whilst XP suggested multimedia XP-rience and "Vista" forms associations like la dolce vita or la joie de vivre (some cynical minds would add Hasta la Vista, baby), Vienna does neither. It's not an empty container that can be filled up with sales droid drivel (unless the targetted audience is geographically challenged). So marketing-wise this isn't a fortunate decision, since "Vienna" is already associated with a historically important metropolis in the heart of Europe (and it's the capital of Austria)

Microsoft seem to consider their customers to be retarded children that have to be well shielded from making observations that could impact their sales figures. Like Vista might not be worth the price of losing one's freedom:

Otherwise I cannot imagine how a discussion about the next Windows version would be something to be worried about. Unless someone mentions all the bells and whistles that were to be added to Vista and have been postponed ad infinitum (and beyond[1]).

O.

Microsoft really has no chioce, they have to keep upgrading to new Windows versions. They learned the hard way when they waited over 5 years to go from XP to Vista, losing much market share to Mac and Linux. For me, it was well worth the $160 to switch from XP to Vista Home Premium, and if the price is right...I well switch to Vienna when it comes out next year. I am, however, not going to waste my money registering software products such as, AV, registry cleaners, antispy, etc, and find out they won't work with Vienna. I will stick to free trials and freeware, from now on.

The site mentioned is not affiliated with Microsoft and has no validity at all!

It sounds like the Mac-Antics spin doctors working overtime to sway new Vista users from experiencing a really great OS.

While Microsoft is working on a new OS, that site does not have the facts. With XP support stretching through 2010, SP3 out in 2008 and Vista support stretching through 2015...I would hold onto my hats a little longer on this one.

Funny how, just a few months ago, these same naysayers were talking up a storm at how long it took to release Vista...yet they are now stepping up and saying a new one will be here in say...18 months or so?

The facts don't add up! Idea
