HI,

My name is Brian and I use the tag nickursis. I have become disenchanted ever since I heard about the "security researchers" who released the latest Windows vulnerabilty info, and in doing reading, stumbled across a link to Eric Howes list, and then into this group.
I thought that fighting malware, spyware, virus's etc.. was a thing each computer literate did on thier own, and have run across cases where people refer others to good products. A couple of years ago, before I got DSL, I belonged to the DirectPC users board, and we had a discussion on this whole area, and was referred to the "great three": Ad-Aware, Spybot SD and SpywareBlaster. Since each did something different, I thought that with ZoneAlarm and Nortons, it constituted a pretty formidable array of defense. I have passed this package on to a large group of users in my local area, as I do some small system building, and also provide "fix it" services.
I also did a scan with Kasperskys Online, and found a little package in some long forgotten Trek wallpaper I had downloaded a while back. So I have some doubts as to the effectiveness of any one AV solution as well. I ventured into HJT, and posted the results and am now studying the tutorial fromm bleepingcomputer.com to see how it works. It really is a neat little tool.
I have been retired from the Navy for 10 years now (did 20 years in submarines-Sonar), and have been with Intel for 10 years making Pentiums, and doing research, and now supporting the final stage work done on wafers prior to testing. Ial so completed a BSIT degree, which wasn't the most in depth program (University of Pheonix) but was a good 'general" IT offering.

Well, thanks for hosting this board, it is a great resource, against a huge array of less than savory characters out there who just don't seem to want to leave nice folk alone now.....
