PGP Security Customer FAQ

October 2001
In October of 2001, Network Associates announced a reorganization of the PGP Security Business. Some of the PGP Security products will be integrated into the McAfee and Sniffer business units. NAI is committed to ensuring that its customer's experience is largely unaffected by this change. These changes will result in greater value and more advanced security technology for the majority of NAI customers. Those customers who may experience transition challenges have the commitment of management, as well as the entire NAI team, to help in any way possible to resolve issues.

This document is intended to answer questions that you may have related to the reorganization.

You have stated that you are "integrating" the PGP Security business unit into McAfee and Sniffer - what does that mean?

Network Associates continually manages its businesses and looks for areas to improve products and services to customers. Part of offering superior service comes from focusing on core competencies and recognizing where customers needs are not being met at the high level of standards set by Network Associates. In those cases, tough decisions must be made for the long-term benefit. The integration of the PGP Security business unit can be described at a high level as two actions:

  1. PGP Security Integrated Into McAfee and Sniffer. Portions of the PGP Security organization will be integrated into McAfee and Sniffer. This integration will allow us to better meet your complex security needs, help you drive security more deeply into your corporate infrastructure and extend security into your strategic business applications. The integrated PGP Security products will continue to have focused Engineering teams, which will be integrated into the McAfee and Sniffer business units. The products will receive renewed and continued focus for providing best-of-breed value to Network Associates customers.

  2. Continued Maintenance and Support for Non-integrated Products. Network Associates will continue to sell and provide premier support for products not integrated into McAfee or Sniffer. The Gauntlet Firewall and PGP file and desktop encryption products will not be integrated. We will seek buyers for these product lines who are best able to support the users needs. When a company buys these products, Network Associates will work with them to provide a smooth transition for existing customers and the acquiring company.

You have mentioned that PGP products will be integrated into the McAfee and Sniffer product lines. Will there be any changes to the existing McAfee and Sniffer product lines?
The current McAfee and Sniffer product sets will continue along their respective development roadmaps as planned. There will be future releases of the McAfee and Sniffer products that incorporate PGP technology as well as a rebranding of the existing PGP products.

What about Magic? Will there be any changes to the Magic product set?
No. Magic will continue with current development plans providing a best-in-class, 100% web-based Service Desk Solution. Magic is finding great success and continues to lead the market with ease of use and 100% customization capabilities.

You have stated that some products will be integrated and developed further to meet customer needs - which products?
We will continue to develop the following products:

Cybercop Scanner
Cybercop ASaP
The previously committed Cybercop Monitor signature updates through the end of 2002
Distributed Cybercop Scanner
Managed Firewall offering
Managed VPN offering
The PGPvpn IPSEC VPN client component of PGP Desktop.
The PGPfire personal firewall and intrusion detection component of PGP Desktop
PGPfire ASaP
The PGPadmin management tool for managing the PGPvpn and PGPfire components of the desktop products.
PGP e-Business Server in all variation and on all platforms.

Which products will you place into a maintenance and support mode?
The following products will be maintained and supported:

Gauntlet Firewall software on all platforms
Gauntlet VPN software on all platforms
Gauntlet GEMS (global enterprise management system) on all platforms
PGP E-ppliance models 300, 310, 320 and 1000. These products were also sold under the "Webshield" brand during earlier versions.
The PGPmail, PGPfile, and PGPicq components of PGP Desktop product line that is sold as "PGPmail". This is the "traditional PGP email plug-in."
The PGPdisk component of PGP Desktop.
PGP Keyserver
PGPwireless for PalmOS and WinCE, which is the equivalent to PGPmail and PGPdisk functionality for PDA platforms.
PGPsdk

For products in maintenance mode, what changes?

All products, including the products in maintenance mode, currently being sold by the PGP Security sales force directly and through channels will continue to be sold and supported until a transition agreement is developed with a purchasing vendor. Technical Support and support offerings will continue uninterrupted and with the same high levels of support your customers have come to expect.

So what happens if no vendor comes forward to purchase these products - does that mean you will keep supporting them forever?
We are confident that each of the affected products will be of interest to other companies in the security market and we will be able to provide a smooth transition to a new vendor in the near future.

Will Network Associates provide me any assistance in planning my transition from these products?
Network Associates has a group of very experienced security consultants who are available to help you plan your migration.

You haven't mentioned the PGP e-ppliance versions 5 through 150, what happens to them?
The PGP e-ppliance versions 5 through 150 will no longer be offered. All of the eppliances previously purchased by customers receive their firmware upgrades from a server on the Internet and will continue to do so.

McAfee will offer low-end firewall appliances from Sonicwall, a third-party provider. An upgrade path and transition plan will be developed with Sonicwall for the PGP e-ppliances deployed by existing customers.

Will my PrimeSupport account manager change?
You will probably not see any change with regards to your PrimeSupport account manager related to this reorganization.

Will my sales account manager change?

For some customers, your account manager may change. For others, it may not. Either way, you will be notified in the very near future of your account manager going forward. In the event you are not contacted or want to discuss the changes prior to being contacted, contact your current account manager or phone 1-972-619-7800.

Will you continue to communicate any new information to me?
We want to make sure you are completely informed and understand any and all changes. Network Associates is committed to ensuring that its customer's experience is largely unaffected by this change. Expect continued communication through your account manager, e-mails and our websites.
